7. Alone in the Dark
This franchise just cant seem to catch a break; after a solid fourth entry in 2001s The New Nightmare, it was 7 years before another game emerged, simply titled Alone in the Dark, seeking to revitalise the series with countless gameplay enhancements. Though not an official reboot, it in many ways felt like that, opting for a grittier visual style, and introducing a unique gameplay mechanic that allowed the player to adapt many in-game items to become weapons. Nevertheless, the game was, for want of a better word, terrible, scoring mediocre reviews across the board due to its clunky driving mechanics and infuriatingly dull narrative. I didnt even bother getting to the end of it, a depressing confession given how much I loved the previous games in the series. Still, it hasnt destroyed all my hope that this cant be fixed; reboot the series, return to its creepy survival horror roots, and ditch all the lame driving stuff.
