10 Video Game Franchises That Need To Die
9. The Sim Franchise
It's hard to improve a game that has little in the way of defined goals aside from "make money" and "impersonate humans." The developers of The Sims clearly realised this, because they didn't even bother trying to change anything.
Although the series started to wear on gamers, nothing destroyed its reputation more than SimCity. The inability to connect to servers meant many reviews were delayed, but when they were finally released, they were damning. The forced multiplayer and online requirements created a game that was inherently broken.
This was followed up by a half-hearted Sims 4, but it was nothing more than a rehash of Sims 3. The new outputs in the Sims series are largely just DLC packages, hoping to cash in by spitting out bits and pieces, but adding nothing of interest to the main games, which are stale at their best, and completely broken at worst.
It's definitely time to finish The Sims off, just not in the elaborate manner that most gamers have done.
