10 Video Game Franchises Who Desperately Need A Win

When there's more hype for the remastered editions of games in the series released a decade ago than the newest installment, that's a bad sign.

Call of Duty once ruled the FPS market with an iron fist, with the release of the first Modern Warfare spawning hundreds of imitators. The series was once the leader of the pack pushing fresh gameplay ideas and next-level multiplayer, but now is struggling to keep up with the industry.

Instead of forming them, the franchise is chasing the latest fads in somewhat embarrassing fashion. 2013 hosted a slew of games with insane movement and futuristic tech so Advanced Warfare featured mech-suits. Fortnite and the battle royale genre blossomed in the past few years so of course Call of Duty rammed the mode in and marketed it front and center. Hell, the latest release Warzone is nothing more than a free-to-play battle royale game.

WW2 and Modern Warfare came and went without much fanfare and the series has pottered along with annual installments of incremental improvements. That's if there even is additions, with Black Ops 4 deciding to remove the entire single-player aspect for a focus purely on the microtransaction riddled multiplayer.

Call of Duty still has a big player base, but it's not been respected for a long time. If it wants to earn back some appreciation then it needs to hit a home run with its next release.
