10 Video Game Genres That NEED To Make A Comeback
1. Real Time Strategy Games
During the late '90s and early 2000s, RTS games were a bit of a sleeping giant in the games industry. Starcraft and Warcraft obviously took center stage in most of the discussions, but there was no shortage of fantastic and popular RTS games. As gaming evolved it seem to leave the slew of classic RTS games behind. Barring the poor reception it received upon launch, the recent excitement of Warcraft 3: Reforged showed us there is still very much a demand for these classic style RTS games. The success of XCOM 2 showcased a blending of RTS and tactical based strategy that garnered praise from fans of both genres.
RTS games are still sought after by a dedicated but dwindling fanbase, with titles like Northgard and Tooth and Nail helping to keep the genre alive. The more casual fan of this genre have also found joy in the likes of Clash of Clans and other IOS/Android games that adopt RTS elements. With a whole new generation of Star Wars fans being tuned into the expanded universe it has to offer, now would seem like an ideal time to license the series out to one of these developers keeping the genre alive.
