10 Video Game Genres That NEED To Make A Comeback
2. Monster Tamers
Pokémon is a global phenomenon that will surely stand the test of time. But Nintendo and Niantic have not always been the only player in town. A slew of clones flooded the market during the golden days of Pokémon. However, now that the market has cooled down, what better time to capitalize on a new generation of gamers who didn't get to experience the pocket-monster boom of the late '90s?
There was the obvious cousin of Pokémon in the Digimon franchise of course, but the likes of Monster Rancher and Dragon Quest Monsters were and are still popular in their own right. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth and the more recent Digimon Survive serve as great modern takes on this niche genre, and with the familiar system in the first Ni No Kuni, it shows that these systems can be implemented in more traditional JRPGs with relative ease. However, these titles seem to have found a home on the Indie market with titles like Re:Legend and the upcoming DokeV garnering excitement for a potential renaissance of the genre.
