10 Video Game Glitches That Turned Into Features
1. Nuclear Ghandi - Sid Meyer's Civilization
Nuclear Gandhi is possibly one of the most well-known glitches that became so notorious within the game's community, the developers felt the need to make it a permanent addition to their game.
The glitch in question was a value error, which caused the ever-peaceful Gandhi to become a nuke-hungry warmonger.
In the original Sid Meier's Civilization, each world leader had a set of values which scaled from 1 to 10. One was Aggressiveness, which in the case of Gandhi was made to be as low as possible. The problem was, Gandhi's aggressiveness was so low, it was actually able to reach negative values.
Due to the nature of the code, negative values would cause an integer overflow, which turned Gandhi's score of -1... into 255. Gandhi then immediately became 25 times MORE aggressive than any other ruler in the game.
Civilization's Gandhi became a huge internet meme, and eventually the developers decided to pay homage to it. Starting from Civilization V, Gandhi makes comments about building nuclear weapons, with his AI deliberately programmed to build and store as many bombs as possible.
