Wavedashing is a technique in Smash Bros. that allows the player to slide through the map without having to stop to block or use an attack.

It is an incredibly useful mechanic, and the world of competitive Smash tournaments wouldn't be complete without it. The fact that Smash pros had to fight with Nintendo to convince them to keep it in the games should be sufficient proof of this.

Although nowadays, wavedashing is being added to new releases of the game consciously, originally it was a glitch which Nintendo sought to remove, the moment it was discovered.

However, because the move had already been in widespread use, being utilized by professional players during competitions and tournaments, the removal of wavedashing caused an uproar within the community. After not being included in two separate titles, Nintendo had to finally cave and add wavedashing back into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

It's rare to see a fanbase being so positively passionate about a glitch in a game, but when your entire professional career depends on it, maybe it's not as outlandish as it might seem.
