Diablo II features a great selection of playable classes, each with a unique skillset and mode of combat.

In the early history of the game, one of the skills of the Paladin class, called "Blessed Hammer", wasn't very popular among Paladin players, as its damage output was mediocre at best and there were better skills to choose from at higher levels.

However, everything changed when Diablo players discovered a glitch connected to the passive skill called "Concentration". According to its description, it boosts physical attacks when active, but the glitch caused it to greatly boost the damage output of magical attacks as well, including Blessed Hammer.

As soon as the glitch was discovered, people began to make Paladin builds focused around creating a whirlwind of deadly hammers flailing around the Paladin and rendering them an invincible killing machine, dubbed the Hammerdin.

When the glitch became known, Blizzard opted out of removing it, and instead left it in the game as an actual feature. They eventually nerfed it by lowering the damage boost Blessed Hammer received from Concentration, but the legacy of the all-powerful Hammerdins is still well-alive to this day. Many players on multiplayer servers can still be seen tossing hammers left and right.
