10 Video Game Guinness World Records That Will Blow You Away

7. First Working Prosthetic Based On A Video Game

Cosplay in the video game world is the preserve of fans who idolise their favourite characters and want to step into their shoes for fun, role-play and conventions. Having and using an actual futuristic, bionic arm in the style of Deus Ex protagonist Adam Jensen? That's something else.

In 2016, Daniel Melville was fitted with the world's first working prosthetic - in this case an arm - based on a video game. The arm is fully functioning and helps Daniel in day-to-day life, replicating the look of the prosthetics Adam Jensen has in 2011's Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and the 2016 sequel, Mankind Divided.

Brilliantly, it's not just a gimmick, as the arm is produced by a company called Open Bionics, who are focussed on below-the-elbow amputees. They're also happy for the 3D-printed design to be used by others, royalty free. Available in the UK provided you're aged 9 and over and have the aforementioned below-elbow injury, prosthetics, technology and video games could well have a long relationship ahead of them.
