10 Video Game Hallucinations That Melted Your Mind

8. Mad Hatter's Wonderland - Batman: Arkham Origins

The Batman: Arkham series is full of reality-warping set-pieces, typically triggered by Scarecrow's Fear Toxin, but nothing quite tops the inspired out-there insanity of the Mad Hatter's brief appearance in Arkham Origins.

If you accept the side mission to capture the Mad Hatter, you'll soon enough end up hypnotised by the theatrical antagonist, causing Batman to hallucinate a nightmarish vision of Wonderland.

The Caped Crusader is then thrown into a barmy series of traversal, puzzle, and combat segments intended solely to throw the player off-balance, all while the Hatter himself taunts you with his demented ramblings.

Though the Dark Knight's short encounter with the Mad Hatter might lack the instant fan service of the series' other trippy detours, its fantastically twisted art-style, combining Lewis Carroll's lush Wonderland with Gotham's distinctly Gothic stylings, ensures it's one of the most creatively peculiar set-pieces in any of the Arkham games.
