10 Video Game Heroes Forced To Die For The Greater Good

7. Tidus - Final Fantasy X

Bioshock infinite
Square Enix

Tidus is one of the most interesting entries in this list, as he never really existed in the first place. To explain this we must first establish a little history.

Humans may sacrifice themselves to attach themselves to relics and become Fayth. Fayth have natural links with Summoners, and a Summoner can bring a Fayth's dreams to life known as Aeons. Tidus is the dream of a Fayth brought to life.

In an ancient war, a desperate Yu Yevon, the leader of Zanarkand, had his people become Fayth and dream of a new Zanarkand where the war had never happened. This dreamland was then brought to life by summoners. Yevon also attempted to create extremely powerful armour, which later transformed into the monster, Sin, that has ravaged Zanarkand in the opening scenes of the game for becoming too reliant on technology.

Yu Yevon becomes corrupted through the creation of Sin and now resides in the core of the monster. Tidus discovers that Zanarkand is a Fayth dream, and by extension, so is he. Accepting his fate, Tidus understands that Sin must be stopped from destroying more cities, and so he and his party battle their way to a confrontation with Yu Yevon, defeating all of his Aeons, and then him.

All of the Aeons are sent to the Farplane, including Tidus, who fades away in front of his friends.
