10 Video Game Heroes Who Accidentally Made Villains MORE EVIL
3. Link - The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
In The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Link is tasked with acquiring the trusty weapon which will allow him to defeat Ganondorf - the Master Sword.
Mid-way through the game Link indeed obtains said sword, removing it from a pedestal. But when Link then returns to the Forsaken Fortress to take Ganondorf on, he learns that he actually just did him a huge favour.
Ganondorf reveals that pulling the Master Sword from its pedestal not only freed his frozen-in-time minions, but also broke the seal which has been keeping Ganondorf and his magic under control.
And to further rub salt in the wound, he then tells you that the Master Sword has lost its power and is effectively functionally useless for fighting him with - for now, at least. What a troll.
As a result, Link spends the rest of the game restoring full power to the Master Sword before taking down a much more powerful Ganondorf.
It's certainly worth it, though, as you get to administer an uncharacteristically brutal death for a cel-shaded Nintendo adventure game - stabbing him right through the skull. Metal as hell.
