Alice: Madness Returns, the sequel to American McGee's Alice, asks the bizarre question - what if Alice in Wonderland was fifty shades of messed up? The thing is, while the game is pretty freaky, it could have been a lot worse. In fact, there's one cut feature that dove so far down the gore and horror rabbit hole it would have left players gagging.

When trolling through The Art of Alice Madness Returns book, you'll find an assortment of concept art that never made it to the game. The vilest and most grotesque of these lost ideas was a nightmarish NPC, a giant princess forced to give birth to a collection of monstrous babies (pictured here). This NPC would have been mercy-killed by Alice in a bloody execution, with the concept art looking less like Wonderland and more like a Terrifier movie.

The game's Art Director, Ken Wong, claimed the concept resulted from pushing the "nice, pleasant" artists to go darker. Well, they certainly did that, with Wong himself claiming they "went too far" here. Gee, you think?
