The stick is the starting weapon in Toby Fox’s beloved RPG, Undertale. It’s a simple joke item, as it doesn’t really do anything besides cluttering your inventory space. It deals zero damage and doesn’t affect your character’s stats in any sort of way.

However, despite its total lack of benefits, the stick isn’t completely useless. In fact, it’s secretly an instant solution to defeating the game’s canine bosses.

Dogamy and Dogaerssa are the two axe-wielding dog guards that the player encounters in Snowdin Forest. The conventional ways of defeating them require you to do quite a bit of work, dodging their attacks and either attacking or playing with them.

All of this can be avoided, however, if you have the stick in your inventory. In the fight, you can toss the piece of wood away to play fetch with the guards, causing them to run off and making them instantly sparable.

The method works with any other canine enemy in the game, so if you don’t feel like fighting them, just throw a stick and make them take care of themselves.
