10 Video Game Level Types That Must Die Next Generation
6. Tailing Missions
Tailing missions are beyond irritating. They're dull, repetitive and monotonous. This is usually the case simply because the game that's all of a sudden forcing you to take a leisurely stroll or a Sunday drive are designed for precisely the opposite. Sort of like forced stealth missions - oh, we'll bloody well get to you soon, don't you worry!
This is especially true in games such as Grand Theft Auto V where until that point you've been barrelling down the street at 120mph. The same goes for Mafia 3, but, uh... that was the least of that game's problems.
LA Noire's, though, were still the goddamn worst. Be it on foot or by car the tailing sequences brought the game to a snail's pace - and LA Noire wasn't exactly the most high-octane game to begin with.
And of course, the worst offender is Assassin's Creed. Seriously, guys, is there anything more laborious or more tedious than stalking your way slowly through the tall grass whilst desperately trying to stay within earshot of your target AND trying not to be spotted at the same time?!
Credit where credit is due: at least they got rid of these for the most part, so perhaps there's hope for other games yet.
