10 Video Game Levels That Gave You Anxiety
6. Fear Effect - The Rooftop Puzzle
A retro entry now, the Fear Effect series (well, the first two) were Eidos' quirky take on action, horror and Japanese folklore/spirit worlds. They were also bloody hard, throwing up some nefarious puzzles that would infuriate and stress gamers out in equal measure.
Whilst there are many to choose from, one of the most fiendish in the first game is having to traverse a window above a Chinese restaurant. Sounds easy enough, right? Avoid the dodgy panes of glass, tread lightly and all that.
On one hand, there are two spotlights panning the area that show players the intact panes. The catch, though, is that one light may show a complete pane, whilst the other shows it's cracked, if you get us.
So with both being unreliable, checking and double-checking is key. It's enough to cause undue stress, especially if you're two panes away and one is false, resulting in seeing the above screenshot many, many times over.
It's not a small affair either, with the window being a good 10x10-ish panes wide. Patience is key here, something players don't have a lot of time of in this game. You could even say... it's a right pane in the neck.
