10 Video Game Levels That Gave You Anxiety
7. Resident Evil 4 - Krauser's Knife Fight QTE
A series primarily based on horror, Resident Evil has more than enough frights and jumpscares to give anyone anxiety. "Dog window" from 1996 normally comes to mind for many. By the time of Resident Evil 4's arrival, these set-pieces were expected.
What it did bring instead, in several instances, were Quick Time Events. Most were simple yet effective, adding some fresh terror to the sequel.
The player has completed a few by the time Leon meets former comrade Krauser, and the two begin a QTE knife fight, so it all seems pretty standard. Except unlike dodging a boulder, this one goes on for ages. Doesn't sound too bad though, right?
Well, considering missing just one prompt will see Leon killed, it's hard not to feel anxious when the protagonist's life is literally on the line here.
As an observer, it's a balletic blade battle to behold. As the person playing it, it's bloody intense and so rapid-fire it's all too easy to see Leon wind up with another hole in his lungs and the Game Over screen appearing.
