9. Slow NPCs

NPCs are an integral part of most games. Whether they're giving us quests, providing us with vital information or support with key missions, there's not many games where you won't come across at least one pre-programmed character with some purpose or another.

They are often a source of much amusement, whether it be due to being designed as such or just through being a glitchy, buggy mess.

NPCs usually serve to drive the game's story, more often than not in a relatively passive role; giving quests, making requests or sharing key information. Sometimes, they take a little more initiative, and they decide that they want to tag along. Or worse, lead the way.

Following an NPC who moves at a snail's pace is one of the most painfully futile gaming experiences. They lead us along, usually with nary a glance back at us, spewing some inane dialogue in a feeble attempt to hold our interest.

It's understandable, because people don't run everywhere in real life, but it's still incredibly frustrating to have to play through a section where an NPC simply refuses to move with any urgency.
