10 Video Game Mistakes That Came Back To Haunt You

1. Pretty Much Every Action - Disco Elysium

ZA/UM

Disco Elysium is all about making mistakes and having to live with them. The character you play, a detective called Harry, is a colossal f**k up from the moment you take control of him in his destroyed hotel room, naked, hungover, and unable to even turn the light on without losing health. Unfortunately for Harry and the player, he's got to pull himself together to solve a murder in town.

While you can spec your character to be more capable, you can never become an expert at anything, and because actions are decided by a dice roll that never hits 100%, nothing in the game is guaranteed to go your way. As a result, mistakes can result in you getting your partner killed, losing key suspects in the investigation, or getting roundhouse kicked to the face.

It's not just the dice rolls though, decisions made by the player intentionally can come back to haunt them as well. Pissing off the wrong person can lock them out of helping you hours later, while trusting someone you shouldn't can result in being backstabbed and further getting locked out of certain quest lines.

The real kicker comes at the end though, when your colleagues from your station arrive to sum up how well you handled the case. Make too many mistakes and you'll get a dressing down, and realise you might as well have stayed drunk in your hotel room for all the good you did.
