10 Video Game Mistakes You Can't Unsee
2. The Cutscene Weapon Is King - Various
There are a few games which are guilty of this continuity
crime in gaming. Picture this: your character’s walking through the battlefield
with a rocket launcher, really wreaking some havoc. Yet, when you
come to a cut-scene, there’s no bazooka in sight and you’re back to default.
Grand Theft Auto is a huge culprit. Both GTA III and IV’s final mission contain cut-scenes where, regardless of what weapon you’re holding, your characters will use their personal favourite. Niko uses an AK-47 and Claude will use an M4.
The earlier Uncharted games take a similar approach. No matter what gun you’re holding, Nate will instead be running around cut-scenes with a pistol.
Even a game as new as the Resident Evil 3 remake showcase a similar issue. For example, if you’re more interested in the infinite machine gun over the default pistol, you can chuck it in the item box and forget about it. In various cut-scenes, though, Jill will somehow still use the pistol to shoot at Nemesis.
It makes sense, why would she possibly have a rocket launcher on her person. Still, modelling a permanent pistol into her holster wouldn’t have gone amiss for cut-scene continuity.
