10 Video Game Moments Everyone Was Waiting For (That Didn't Happen)

8. Getting The Ultimate Matrix Game & Playing As Neo - The Matrix: Path Of Neo

Across the early 2000s, The Wachowskis reality-questioning epic was everywhere, with every entertainment property under the sun looking to get in on its awesome blend of slow-motion, sunglasses and philosophical socio-babble.

Cut to Enter the Matrix, and although it had a fairly enjoyable combat system and every appropriate sound effect in tow, the fans had one question during (and after) production: Where was Neo?

Playing as Ghost and Niobe in a side-story that bolstered the movies was fine enough, but millions wanted to dodge bullets on rooftops, fight Agent Smith in a train station and roundhouse kick a few thousand clones in a playground.

With Path of Neo, it was set to capitalise on all these fan wishlist features and more - literally stitching together all the movie's fight scenes into one game where you'd embody The One throughout.

Sadly - though, if you were a big enough Matrix fan, maybe it was still okay - the general feel of combat and quality of animations was sporadic and cheap, at best.

The much talked-about rooftop bullet dodge? It was a terrible-looking move you could do anywhere - cue a limbo'ing Neo backwards-walking his way around the place. Path of Neo ended with a skyscraper-sized Agent Smith boss battle as the Wachowskis channeled the rage they felt at The Matrix Revolutions' ending not being loved into one giant middle finger.
