10 Video Game Moments That Made You Cry Like A Baby

8. Gears Of War 3 - Dom's Sacrifice

Alright it might not be up there with characters we've half (or fully) fallen in love with over the course of over 50-odd hours of dialogue and backstory, but come on; did you not totally well-up when Dom decided he'd had enough of devoting every waking second to battling the Locust horde? A companion from the first game and our hero Marcus Fenix's best friend, Dominic Santiago had a pretty tough run throughout the course of the franchise. Initially on the hunt for his wife following the invasion, he eventually comes across her in an underground facility - initially thinking she's still healthy and alive - only for reality to kick in and the realisation that she had passed away long ago tearing him in half. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYeaclK44Ek That in itself is a very moving moment, but it's in part three following the brief respite of the COG soldiers making it out onto a civilian ship - only to be plunged back into the fight - that Dom decides he's had enough. Realising that him and his comrades are soon going be overrun by enemy forces, he forgoes goodbyes for the sake of driving a tanker full of gasoline into the structure you're attempting to defend - taking out the entire opposition in the process. Looking to the sky, with his final words of "Never thought it'd end like this, huh Maria?" and a reprise of Gary Jules' Mad World playing underneath, it was a very touching moment in a game chock-full of blockbuster action.
