6. Kaernk – Amnesia: The Dark Descent
While the entirety of Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a terrifying thrill-ride, Kaernk stood out. This water-dwelling creature cannot be fought, nor can you ever truly escape him.
Thalassophobia - the fear of the sea - is a very real and very scary phobia to experience. While Kaernk does not live in the sea, this water-dwelling monster triggers anxiety and terror in all those suffering from thalassophobia.
While only capable of attacking an individual in the water, the Kaernk remains a terrifying, albeit invisible, presence.
You'll encounter Kaernk six times throughout the game, four of which are simply visual encounters. If you'd ever like to walk along the edge of a lake or through a brook, we recommend never stepping in the castle's water.
