10 Video Game Movies That Wouldn’t Definitely Suck

9. Spec Ops: The Line

Another game probably more remembered for its story, Spec Ops: The Line was a criminally under-rated third person shooter filled with violently shocking moments and a clever plot twist that, after playing through again, was hiding in plain sight the entire time.

The story, which saw a team of elite soldiers go into the ruins of Abu Dhabi to find a missing unit, was praised by many for highlighting just how horrifying war can be by mocking a genre that often glorifies death and violence. In one section of the game, you have to use white phosphorus to kill a large group of enemies, in a typical gameplay section for a third person shooter. However, (SPOILER) a cutscene soon reveals that you had actually just massacred a group of women and children instead.

Spec Ops: The Line’s mature and thought-provoking story makes the game an ideal candidate for a movie adaptation. War movies have always been popular, but the ones that focus on human stories that don’t always paint the heroes in the best light usually garner more attention.

As long as the anti-war message of the game didn’t get lost in translation by the film-makers, Spec Ops: The Line would make a compelling movie that could hold its own against other films in the genre.
