10 Video Game Movies We Actually Want To See

6. Grand Theft Auto

The Grand Theft Auto franchise is a huge staple in popular culture. It has been on everyone's minds and shelves for decades. Whenever a new title appears, media attention follows. The controversial nature of the games is ironic as the film industry features titles that ultimately generate the same antics but without player involvement. It would be fascinating to see if GTA would cause the same amount of controversy if it was revealed in a non-playable format.

Adapting this game would be easy. Simply work on a crime based film that has a focus on mayhem and fun, fix it up with the Grand Theft Auto name and you will have created something marketable. The episodic nature of the gaming series means that a film adaptation itself would easily be able to carve out a unique narrative without ruining anything already seen in the franchise.

It could take a similar approach to GTA V by having multiple protagonists that focus on a different style of crime. This would generate a feature that felt consistently unique and ever-evolving. It would also make it accurate towards the games and truly capture the spirit of the crime focussed brand.
