10 Video Game Movies We Actually Want To See
4. Outlast
The original game created a massive buzz on the internet upon its release, and the subsequent sequel - although not attaining the same attention - was a great success. The frequently scare packed experience was twisted and horrifying, taking the player through a deadly asylum filled with a whole host of terrifying residents.
The concept of an abandoned asylum has been explored before, but never with the attention that Outlast had. Its focus on gory visuals created something unique and daunting. But the setting was only the backdrop of the title with the horrific host of characters being the real centrepiece.
This same approach could be taken with a film adaptation. Having the viewer explore this setting through the eyes of a protagonist who seems genuinely weak compared to the situation could have them continually feeling on edge. Also, the visuals could have plenty of scope to play with dramatic lighting making the film as ever-changing and anxiety-filled as the game was.
The original title wasn't just scary it was adrenaline-inducing, with an always fast pace that drove it to popularity. Most modern horror films don't have this sort of densely packed feeling, and thus with some great editing and visual effects, this could be an overwhelming fright fest.
