8. Cheeseburger & His Diabetes - Far Cry 5

Far Cry 5 is, in my opinion, a highly underrated entry in the series.

After being unexpectedly sci-fi in the original, Far Cry 2 was the burn-the-grass-and-don’t-die-from-mosquito-lurgy one, Far Cry 3 had Vaas, Blood Dragon was the outrageously synth-lasery one, and Far Cry 4 had Crab Rangoon. But the fifth game? Usually, it gets shrugged off as “the latest one before the latest one... not the pink one”.

It’s a real shame, because it has some of the sharpest writing and expectation-subverting story design out of all of them... but it also has Cheeseburger.

Cheeseburger is an optional companion (who also happens to be a big daft grizzly bear) and local attraction, raised as a tame show animal, given that name for having been found behind a local burger joint as a cub after his mum was killed by poachers.

If you go to the venue that hosts Cheeseburger, you find out why he’s on a diet - the patrons visiting his show would eagerly buy and throw double cheeseburgers to him, and now he has some pretty serious dia-bear-ties from all the gorging. Hidden audio logs reveal “he totally trashed his enclosure” when being fed low-fat food.

Same, Cheeseburger, same.
