10 Video Game NPCs You Should NEVER Kill

7. Nil - Horizon Zero Dawn

Bioshock Little Sister
Sony Interactive Entertainment

Across Horizon Zero Dawn, Aloy comes into contact with many great characters. One of these is Nil who is, ostensibly, a psychopath.

Despite how conerning his love of murder is, he's a useful ally to Aloy when clearing out the bandit camps across post-apocalyptic Utah and Colorado. When Nil's questline comes to end, he feels as though he has nothing left to do and asks Aloy to fight him - a choice left in the player's hands. Know however that if you choose yes, Nil intends to fight to the death.

There's an trophy in Horizon Zero Dawn called "All My Allies" which is exactly what it sounds like. When Aloy gears up for the endgame, if you've completed the right side-quests, you'll unlock this as you discover your compatriots banding together with you for the greater good. Considering several of Horizon's tribes are wary of each other or outright isolationist, it's an awesome moment.

Nil doesn't actually contribute to this trophy but can join them. In fact, if he doesn't show something feels quite frankly missing. Considering the conversations he and Aloy have are the deepest and most philosophical, he adds a unique element to the world. Quite simply, whilst you'll still get the trophy, Nil deserves to be here.

You get nothing for killing Nil yourself, whereas refusing to fight him allows him to take part in the huge Battle of the Alight.
