10 Video Game Pause Screen Secrets You Totally Missed

2. Deadpool Mocks You For Pausing - Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions holds an indelible place in Spider-Man lore given that it ultimately inspired writer Dan Slott to pen the iconic Spider-Verse comic book arc.

It's a notable game for many other reasons, not least having Ultimate Spidey face off against a brilliantly annoying Deadpool years before Hollywood finally figured him out.

Despite this, no single moment in the game better captures the Merc with a Mouth's personality than the pause screen during his Pain Factor level.

If you hit pause and wait around a minute, a supremely bored Deadpool will start sounding off about you making him wait.

From a ridiculous Taxi Driver impression to calling the player a "pause-a-holic," and cracking increasingly lame jokes centered around the word "pause," Deadpool eventually gets fed up enough that he decides to start repeating dialogue as a favour to the writers, because they apparently have more important lines to write elsewhere.

It's a perfect distillation of who Deadpool is as a character, and yet still manages to come as a complete surprise - especially back in 2010.
