10 Video Game Plot Twists That Punished Loyal Fans
7. Comstock Is Booker/Booker Kills Comstock - Bioshock: Infinite
Some say 'masterpiece', others (me) say 'overrated, with godawful combat'.
Due mostly in part to Bioshock Infinite having a truly arduous development cycle, the final game felt almost like a patchwork quilt of necessary content to make 'a Bioshock game'. Combat? Check. Philosophical ramblings about the nature of self and purpose? Check. Now, where's the Big Twist? We definitely need one...
Enter "the villain was you all along!" for the supposed win.
Though it made little to no sense that after hours of dissecting the possibility of Comstock's flying utopian city being an alternate history take on where America might have gone (had it not succumbed to damn moral decency), instead we had to buy that Comstock was Booker, and the whole 'flying city' endeavour came from him alone.
This actually comes later in the game, but the part that really spilt my cereal was seeing Booker - a man who's been driven by the NEED to understand everything that's going on - bash Comstock's head in, the moment he sees him. Obviously it's in place to facilitate the ending, as having a person talk to themselves would've raised Booker's eyebrows at least, but the game literally takes control away from you as it cutscene-kills the one guy you were playing through to talk to.
Subtlety, thy name is not Bioshock Infinite.
