10 Video Game Pre Orders That Were Actually Awesome
4. Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight's stretch goals aren't a traditional pre-order bonus, though their value are simply too great to ignore.
Shovel Knight's mimicry of games such as Zelda II and Duck Tales was a reminder
that such gameplay features will never go out of style. Combine the
tried-and-tested gameplay with gorgeous pixel art and a charming tale of friendship
with such features and the result is critical and commercial acclaim.
Throughout the mid-2010s, Shovel Knight continued to gain traction with gamers, and the promise of three expansions centred around Plague Knight, Specter Knight and King Knight gave fans more to look forward to. Each new story would bring new gameplay mechanics and abilities comparative to their respective protagonists.
Those who Kickstarted the project ahead of time were granted access to the upcoming expansions for the small price of, well, nothing. Added as an update to the base game, all three lengthy additions were otherwise bundled alongside one another as part of the Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove.
