10 Video Game Reboots That Saved Iconic Franchises
7. Rainbow Six: Vegas
While the Rainbow Six series always had its fans, the original tactical action games actually had much more of a niche audience than most people remember. Because of the title's more hardcore leanings, with its extremely low time to kill and perma-death for team members, the early games offered some of the most suspenseful squad-based shooting on consoles, but as a result weren't entirely accessible to the wider gaming mainstream. With Vegas, the team at Ubisoft attempted to refine this hardcore sensibility while making the game more accessible to more casual players. By flashing up the narrative and adding in more set-pieces, Ubisoft was able to craft a new sub-series that would appeal to the twitchy multiplayer die-hards that were buying up all the biggest games at the time. It might not have aged too well in the years since its original release, but at the time Rainbow Six: Vegas was a huge step forward for the series as a whole, bringing the franchise's production values up to the same level of quality as its legendarily tense gameplay.
