10 Video Game Remakes & Remasters That Surpassed Expectations
1. Shadow Of The Colossus HD
Released in 2005, Shadow of the Colossus tells a simple but gorgeous tale of a young man tasked with fighting giant monsters in the hope of reviving a young girl from the grips of death, leaving you as the player to track down every creature in the expansive wilderness with very few clues and a lot of questions.
Bluepoint Studios were task with remaking every single visual asset in glorious high definition on the PS4 remake, vastly improving everything the original attempted to achieve. Every blade of grass and tuft of fur realistically responded to the movements of the player character, whilst everything else was largely left exactly as it once was. The respect for the source material was clear, with every cut scene and music piece retained, ensuring the look and feel of the game was as originally intended.
Shadow of the Colossus HD set a new standard for remakes in the process of its development. It's proof positive that under the right conditions, magic can be made of the past, but not everything has to be adjusted or modified to suit a modern world.
Sometimes all it takes is a little extra shape or form, not just a complete retool.
