Due to Lara Croft's impact on gaming culture during the late '90s, it wasn't much of a surprise when Tomb Raider was remade in 2007. Tomb Raider Anniversary was a solid revision, due to its improved graphics, focus on exploration, and less tedious tutorials.
But after the 2013 reboot trilogy revitalised the franchise, it was only a matter of time before Tomb Raider was renovated again. Sure enough, Aspyr announced they'd be releasing a a recreation of the first three games in 2024.
Against all odds, Tomb Raider I-III Remastered turned out worse than the last do-over. Hell, this trio of duds was more outdated than the initial trilogy.
Although players can choose not to use the prehistoric tank controls of the previous games, the modern set-up isn't much better. Due to the controls' impreciseness, the simplest platforming segments are unbearable, especially with the rampant bugs. There's an option to switch to the original game's graphics, but the gameplay runs worse with the low-poly aesthetic for some reason.
Although the textures and models have been drastically improved and there are some new features to play around with, this Remaster feels more like a Demaster.
