10 Video Game Reveal Trailers Better Than The Final Release
8. Bioshock Infinite
Even though Bioshock Infinite was critically acclaimed when it released in 2013, it could have been so much more. The footage that was present in the first gameplay trailer is genuinely awe-inspiring, reflecting a scale and a sense of ambition that was nowhere to be found in the final release.
Not only was there a major change in narrative focus, with the plot instead being primarily based around the civil war tearing apart Columbia, but this altered story actually explained some of the more out-of-nowhere plot points present in the finished game.
Likewise, the actual moment-to-moment gameplay and combat looked astronomically better in the promotional material than in the final release. Replacing the basic firefights that players actually got, the wide-open combat areas of the first demo were breathtaking, while the interplay between sky-hook mobility, weighty shooting and Elizabeth's powers all looked like chaotic fun.
It's clear the developers couldn't find a way to synergise these ideas, but the game could have benefitted from keeping these ambitious mechanics rather than throwing them out for a more straightforward combat system.
