10 Video Game Rewards For Absolutely Terrible Things
1. Dastardly - Red Dead Redemption
To an average resident of the Wild West, there is no deed more despicable than hogtying a damsel in distress to a train track. The only thing more evil is doing it while simultaneously twirling your impeccably dapper moustache.
In order to honor this oddly specific tradition of villainy in the Old West, Red Dead Redemption features a special achievement called "Dastardly." As you may already expect, the achievement requires the player to tie a woman to a train track and then wait for thousands of pounds of steel to run her over.
It's an absolutely gruesome and cruel thing to do, but at the same time, you can't deny there's something oddly hilarious about recreating such a classic, if not cartoonish, trope in a game as serious as Red Dead Redemption. It almost feels like something Dutch would order his men to do after he finally went insane.
Or, you know, any bored player who's twenty hours into the game and has nothing better to do other than torture innocent NPCs for their own amusement.
Huh. It seems Dutch wasn't the most terrifying monster of the Wild West after all.
