6. Refusing To Save Someone Unlocks A Powerful Fighter - Chrono Cross

Bioshock Little Sister
Square Enix

In this underrated Chrono Trigger sequel, a reality-hopping warrior called Serge teams up with dozens of heroes to destroy a cosmic force that threatens all of reality.

At one point, Serge's teammate, Kid, is poisoned, leaving her bedridden. When her allies ask what they will do, Serge has the option to say "Find a way to save her" or "I don't know."

Of course, the obvious choice is to help her because, well, what kind of decent person wouldn't? Also, since Kid is the main heroine, letting one of the strongest party members die seems like a really dumb idea.

Against all logic, it's more beneficial if Serge abandons Kid. By doing so, it will trigger a series of events that cause a warrior called Glenn to join the party. With his high HP, strength, accuracy, and defence, Glenn is among the most powerful characters in the game.

But is he worth sacrificing Kid for?

Absolutely, since Kid recovers on her own regardless. As a result, there's no disadvantage to deserting her, since Kid eventually comes back, and Serge unlocks an overpowered teammate. It's a win-win for everybody.
