8. Alien Isolation - The Hive
Alien Isolation is undoubtedly one of the series’ best
adaptations. Launched in 2015, it followed the story of Amanda Ripley,
searching for clues about her mother’s disappearance 15 years on.
Informed that the flight recorder from the Nostromo has been
located, Amanda travels to space station Sevastopol to obtain it. Upon arrival
though, she discoveres a Xenomorph is loose, forcing her to proceed in stealth
as normal weapons cannot harm it.
Eventually killing it, she then gets advised to seek out Sevastopol’s reactor core by APOLLO, the AI system. Upon reaching the core, Amanda makes a horrifying discovery that it’s become home to a Xenomorph hive, previously used as a nesting grounds for the dead Xenomorph and contains numerous eggs, with previous victims being used as hosts.
Whilst Ripley destroys the Hive, several new Xenomorphs
manage to escape and make their way into the station. Capturing that same sense
of dread Alien became famous for, it’s hard to imagine Amanda was especially
thrilled by this reveal.
