Teasing the sequel with a ridiculously hard-to-obtain secret ending must have been a trend in the PlayStation 2 era, because Kingdom Hearts II did so with an even greater amount of cruelty.

There were two ways to reach the secret ending. One was to simply beat the game on its hardest difficulty setting, called "Proud Mode." The alternative was to complete the entries in Jiminy Cricket’s journal, which contained information on every single thing in the game. In other words, you were either forced to break your controller trying to fight against significantly tougher enemies or break your mind searching through every nook and cranny in every location you went to.

Your reward for doing either of those things was a pre-rendered cutscene showing three ironclad warriors looking cool in the desert as a bunch of cryptic messages popped up on the screen. Some diehard fans of Kingdom Hearts would probably call this an awesome lore drop, but in reality, this was just a promo for another Kingdom Hearts game, "Birth by Sleep."

Well, after doing all of that stuff, most people would be dozing off regardless.
