6. Two F-Zeroes For The Price Of One - F-Zero GX
F-Zero may not be officially dead, but given that the last home console entry was 2003's F-Zero GX, it certainly seems like Nintendo's seminal high-speed racer has at least one cockpit in the grave. A pity, especially given GX's undimmed brilliance.
As well as being arguably the greatest hover-car racer ever made (Wipeout fans may disagree), GX also had an unexpected bonus - the entirety of F-Zero AX, the arcade version of the game. Which would have been a staggeringly generous addition, were it not for the fact gamers were never meant to know it was there.
The only way to unlock F-Zero AX is through using a Game Shark or Action Replay, two extremely unofficial, code-altering cheat devices. Doing so gives you access to the arcade game, which the developers clearly buried in the hopes it would never be discovered.
It was, and Nintendo were so annoyed by the fact that they cancelled all future entries. (OK, Nintendo actually said the series is on hiatus because they don't know how to improve upon GX, but we like our theory better).
