The story of Titanfall 2's undiscovered Timecop reference is very similar to the one about the Mars Rover in Mass Effect. It effectively starts off with one of the developers of the game getting frustrated with their secret remaining very much secretive, and deciding to come out clean.

In 2022, David Bartle, narrative historian at Respawn Entertainment, decided to post a tweet about an undiscovered easter egg in one of the stages of Titanfall 2, after getting permission to reveal it. Bartle's tweet sparked a debate amongst fans of the game, and within the next few hours, gamers were banding together to find out what Bartle was talking about.

Finally, one of the onlookers discovered the easter egg by "realm-shifting" 88 times near a closed door. The secret turned out to be a reference to the movie Timecop, which seems fitting considering that both the movie and Titanfall 2 include people traveling through time.

It took people six years to discover this easter egg, but considering how obscure the exact number of realm shifts required to trigger it was, chances are it would've been at least six more.
