10 Video Game Secrets You Can't Unsee

8. Creepy Faces - Game Boy Camera

Once upon a time when two face buttons and a D-pad were considered technologically advanced and built-in webcams were the stuff of dreams, the Game Boy ruled handheld video game market. Not that there was much to choose from, as the precursor to the Nintendo DS was clearly the superior system over the toothless Atari Lynx and the woefully underwhelming Sega Game Gear.

Its 14-year life-cycle produced a plethora of exceptional titles, yet the pocket-friendly design meant corners were cut to maintain the system's portability. Attachments for the Game Boy were plentiful, from magnifying glasses to enhance screen size to attachable lights to illuminate the display.

One such product was the camera attachment, a chunky webcam-like design which sits atop the system, allowing players to take selfies (before they were cool) as well as upload an avatar of themselves into their favourite games.

However, browsing the system's menus and selecting the 'run' option will startle the player with a collection of creepy faces with the tagline 'who are you running from?' and an unsettling 8-bit jingle.

The attachment didn't live up to expectations upon release, and it's hard to think that's such a bad thing, given the circumstances.
