10 Video Game Sequel Baits That Went Nowhere

4. What Happened To Regina? - Dino Crisis 2

Putting dinosaurs into the core philosophies of survival horror was a pretty clever move by Capcom but don’t sleep on Dino Crisis’ sequel. It’s an awesome, arcade style action romp… it just so happens to have a terrible cliff-hanger ending.

Trying to explain the plot of Dino Crisis 2 in its entirety is an effort in patience and some kind of degree but suffice to say its a convoluted time travel story with a big twist ending. As it closes, the game’s two protagonists go their separate ways as a lab falls down around them. Dylan is implied to be travelling to the future and this is somewhat handled by the spin-off game Dino Stalker.

On the other hand, series mainstay and original protagonist Regina leaves the collapsing facility to find a way to save Dylan and his daughter from the future Paula… and walks out of the franchise forever.

It’s not like Dino Crisis ended there. It had another instalment. However, Capcom clearly wanted a fresh slate because the game not only doesn’t feature Regina or the time travel headache of a story, DC3 in fact jumps another shark and goes to space and features a rampant AI.

However, Dino Crisis 3 was so bad that the series went extinct shortly thereafter - leaving Regina’s mission a total mystery for over 20 years.
