10 Video Game Sequels That Fixed NOTHING
7. Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)
It promised a dazzling sense of speed on next-generation hardware, the moment when the blue blur would finally complete his transition to the third dimension.
What we got instead was an unfinished mess; Sonic the Hedgehog for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is one of the worst sequels ever made, anyone familiar with the character is aware of that.
Arguably its most egregious sin was how it stubbornly refused to improve on the iffy controls of Sonic Heroes and Shadow The Hedgehog, which both faced criticism for imprecise platforming and muddled gameplay. Sonic '06 only arrived to a chorus of boos.
As the concluding chapter of the Adventure saga, Sonic 06 tarnished the franchise's reputation and planted the speedy hedgehog at the bottom of the barrel for some time afterwards. Of course we now know that the development team was cut up across multiple projects and forced to get the game out for Sonic's 15th anniversary.
What's so frustrating is that both the original Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 had far better controls in the years before 06's release, 3D escapades could work in theory. Even today, SEGA still struggles to make their mascot work in 3D.
