10 Video Game Sequels That Played Things Way Too Safe
7. Dead Space 3
Dead Space 3 is built from the ground up to appeal to as many people as possible. It took the survival horror gameplay focussed on atmosphere, item management, and tactically engaging enemies, and reversed them to avoid possibly alienating gamers put off by slower-paced horror.
Enemies and items are plentiful, can simply be pumped with ammo to kill and they can shoot back this time. Speaking of ammo, it's now universal and there's a ton of it, removing the final trace of the game's survival horror roots beyond the visuals.
Chuck in poorly implemented Co-op and one of the first iterations of microtransactions, and you have the cherry on top of the broad-appeal pie. To say the game played it safe would be a gross understatement.
