10 Video Game Sequels That Played Things Way Too Safe

8. Assassins Creed: Revelations

Assassins Creed is a series that always felt like it was just about to crash and burn due to running out of ideas before it hit big with an entry that shocked it back to life.

Never has it been closer to this point than with 2011's near pointless instalment, Revelations, with the selling point being the protagonists Ezio and Altair were in it together, but beyond that, it feels like a tacked-on add-on than a full-fledged sequel.

The gameplay is Assassins Creed II with a hook-blade, and the multiplayer was looted wholesale from Brotherhood only a year prior. It doesn't help that Constantinople was a drab backdrop compared to the previous entries that made the franchise fatigue less bearable.

The series gameplay was just overly familiar by this point, and developers didn't seem willing to take the chances they would eventually do down the line to critical acclaim. People wanted to see Ezio in an open world and a third straight game with that mindset was shipped out to meet the demand.
