10 Video Game Sequels That Prove Fans Shouldn't Get What They Want

7. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

If it wasn't for the presence of some Assassins and the loose connections to the present timeline, this wouldn't even be in the same series. Black Flag is basically a pirate simulator, and that's why it's so much better than the other Assassin's Creeds.

The biggest change is perhaps the most obvious-pirates. The complete shift from Assassins to pirates is represented in the protagonist too, Edward Kenway, who seems as if he wants nothing to do with them.

Black Flag's focus on boats and sea shanties means that the only real similarities between it and other games in the series comes from some similar gameplay beats. Besides that and the name on the box, it's a completely different ball game.

If Ubisoft had stuck with this approach the series would probably be better off, as Black Flag is easily one of the most beloved the series has ever seen.

It seems like Ubisoft are aware of how great this concept was, as they seem to be coming back to it for Skull and Bones. Here's hoping that's just as good.
