6. Far Cry 2
The first Far Cry was a linear shooter that focused on supernatural powers. Far Cry 2 chose to ditch that plotline and focus instead on being a realistic look at guerrilla warfare.
In fact, the only thing that really remained between the two games was the first person gameplay and beautiful graphics. Besides that, the two couldn't be further apart in tone and general gameplay goals.
Although the switch from linear, open-ended maps to a full open-world may seem like the biggest different between Far Cry and Far Cry 2, it's actually the massive tone change that makes the two so far apart. Far Cry 2 strives for realism and added detail in representing African warfare, which is certainly a far cry from mutagens.
You could very easily make a case for Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3 being massively different from each other, but it's really the first and second that are so different.
