10 Video Game Sequels That Surpassed The Original In Every Way
9. Diablo II
Simply put, Blizzard created a great hack-and-slash RPG with Diablo, and created a phenomenal one with Diablo II. While the former was a very well-made game, with most critics even giving it better reviews than its sequel, Diablo II is objectively better in many ways.
Firstly, Diablo II provided players more classes to choose from, offering five (seven with the expansion) unique characters to play as, as opposed to the first Diablo's three. Moreover, each class truly feels like it's own, each with their own advantages, disadvantages and skill-sets. This serves to make the game feel more varied and diverse.
While each chapter in the first Diablo followed a similar theme as you descended into the depths of Hell, Diablo II contained various different locations, each with their own unique designs and feel to them, which made it feel like you were truly on an adventure. And it did this while maintaining the grim and somber aesthetic that the series was becoming known for.
It's arguably one of the most complete games Blizzard has ever developed, and frankly, it's no wonder Diablo III was seen as such a disappointment. Diablo II simply set the bar too high.
