Halo truly was the game the world needed when it was released in 2001, and Bungie were seriously going to have to step everything up for a sequel... and they did just that.

First off, the plot is far more urgent this time around. While your victory in the first Halo pushed the Covenant back, they came back in full force and took the fight straight to Earth in a big way, forcing Master Chief to once again prove that he is the soldier who can save humanity.

The gameplay is more polished, the difficulty was ramped up for those who enjoy a challenge, and the campaign was much longer and more fleshed out. The game also provided players the ability to take control of The Arbiter, providing an entirely new play-style that you were forced to quickly adapt to. If you wanted to save the world, this game was going to make you work for it.

On the multiplayer side of things, Halo 2 improved upon the first as well. Xbox Live had grown and evolved to a more viable platform by this point, the maps were larger, more diverse, and in greater quantity. Plus, the new game modes were enough to keep players busy for hours even after upon completing the already lengthy campaign.

Halo 2 is a monumental sequel, without a doubt.
